GL Accounting Officer
JOB PURPOSE
The Finance Officer is responsible for supporting Record-to-Report (R2R) activities through the accurate preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, balance sheet schedules, fixed asset accounting, lease accounting, intercompany accounting, and financial reporting activities across assigned entities. The role supports month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while ensuring compliance with IFRS, organizational policies, governance requirements, and reporting deadlines.
The position supports the GL Accounting Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reporting schedules, supporting audit requirements, and ensuring financial transactions and reconciliations are complete, accurate, and audit ready.
The main duties and responsibilities include:
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Month-End Close & General Ledger Accounting
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, provisions, prepayments, reclassifications, and period-end accounting adjustments.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities in accordance with established reporting timetables.
- Maintain supporting documentation for accounting transactions, close activities, and reporting submissions.
- Follow close calendar requirements, complete assigned tasks on time, and escalate issues affecting close activities.
- Support the integrity and completeness of General Ledger balances and financial records.
Reconciliations, Intercompany & Balance Sheet Management
- Prepare General Ledger reconciliations, balance sheet schedules, and supporting documentation.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate unreconciled items.
- Support intercompany accounting activities including reconciliations, confirmations, matching differences, and elimination support.
- Monitor reconciling items and follow up with stakeholders to ensure timely resolution.
- Assist in maintaining complete and accurate balance sheet substantiation across assigned accounts.
Fixed Assets, Lease Accounting & Reporting
- Process fixed asset additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation runs, and related accounting activities.
- Maintain lease accounting schedules and support accounting for right-of-use assets and lease liabilities.
- Prepare supporting schedules for management reporting, financial reporting, and audit purposes.
- Assist with FCCS reporting schedules, disclosure requirements, and Group reporting submissions.
- Support variance analysis and financial reporting activities as required.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support
- Perform assigned control activities relating to journals, reconciliations, cut-off, intercompany accounting, and General Ledger governance.
- Maintain documentation and evidence supporting ICFR/ICOFR controls and audit requirements.
- Support internal, external, statutory, and financial control audits through the provision of supporting schedules and documentation.
- Perform VAT reconciliations and support tax reporting activities where required.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, organizational policies, Delegation of Authority requirements, and finance governance standards.
SAP S/4HANA & Data Governance
- Supp Process and maintain General Ledger transactions accurately within SAP S/4HANA.
- Support accurate maintenance of account mappings, cost centres, profit centres, company codes, and related master data.
- Identify posting errors, data quality issues, reconciliation discrepancies, and system-related exceptions and escalate them appropriately.
- Support finance transformation initiatives, system enhancements, process automation, and reporting improvements.
Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work collaboratively with Finance, FP&A, AP, AR, Payroll, Tax, and operational teams to support financial reporting requirements.
- Contribute to process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the General Ledger function.
- Maintain accurate working papers, documentation, and process records to support knowledge retention and audit readiness.
- Support KPI monitoring relating to close efficiency, reconciliation ageing, journal quality, and operational performance.
Key Deliverables
- Accurate and timely completion of assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
- Accurate and fully supported General Ledger balances, journals, and reconciliations.
- Timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany tie-outs, and open-item resolution activities.
- Complete and accurate fixed asset, lease accounting, and General Ledger records.
- Timely FCCS reporting support, audit schedules, and management reporting deliverables.
- Compliance with financial controls, governance requirements, and audit standards.
- Continuous contribution to process improvement, automation, and reporting efficiency initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification or progress towards professional certification is advantageous.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in General Ledger accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, intercompany accounting, or Record-to-Report processes.
- Strong understanding of IFRS, month-end close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting requirements.
- Good understanding of Record-to-Report (R2R) processes and awareness of Order-to-Cash (O2C) and Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process impacts on financial reporting.
- Experience using SAP S/4HANA, Asset Accounting, and financial reporting systems.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, analytical, and reporting skills.

- Supports continuous improvement initiatives that enhance reporting quality, process efficiency, internal controls, and operational effectiveness.
